Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Especially women in the mid-thirties may suffer from constrictions in the palm. The so-called carpal tunnel syndrome causes pains in the area of index finger, middle finger and thumb by constricting the nervus medianus. Symptoms of paralysis in the hand may occur and the gripping strength lessens. During the day the hand goes numb while a "fuzzy sensation" disrupts the sleep during the night. In the early stage a treatment with local infiltration, physical therapy and acupuncture can be offered. In an advanced stage only an operation can help cure the pains and regain the gripping strength. To that end the constricting carpal tunnel has to be endoscopically widened and the trapped nerve has to be exposed. With the aid of a special arthroscopic technique from California this can be achieved via a tiny incision into the skin. With this minimally invasive operation, going on experience, the healing is substantially accelerated compared to conventional, open operations.
