Computed Tomography

The computed tomography is an important diagnostic procedure in medicine. It is an object with a rotating X-ray tube, a large number of X-rays from different directions.

The X-rays caused by the object, are processed by several detectors simultaneously recorded. The comparison between output and the measured radiation intensity provides information on the mitigation of radiation through the tissue to be investigated.

Using rechnerbasierter evaluation thereof, it is possible a three-dimensional image (volume data) to produce. Through further processing steps can then be cut images and 3D views reconstructed in arbitrary planes and evaluated.

To investigate an institution is in practice usually a series of images produced cut.

By varying parameters of the investigation and the use of contrast agents can be a very good detail to be achieved.

A disadvantage of computed tomography, the radiation exposure. The doctor needs to decide for a CT scan the associated risk into account. The high expressiveness can justify the implementation.

An alternative to CT, the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) dar.
