Total Hip Arthroplasty

htepimplant

What is the natural structure of a hip joint?

Hip joints have a natural ball-and-socket structure. The socket-shaped part of the hip bone is referred to as the acetabulum or cup. The ball-shaped part of the joint is referred to as the femoral head.

What is total hip arthroplasty?

The surgical procedure that is used replace the entire hip joint is referred to as total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total hip replacement (THR). In medicine, one speaks of "implanting" an artificial hip, which is itself referred to as an "implant." The artificial hip or implant replaces both parts of the joint, the femoral head and the cup, entirely.

Detailed information on the design of hip prostheses, Hüfttotalendoprothesen, hip TEP, H Hüftprothese Schaft zementfrei TEP

From which parts of one hip (hip-TEP, hip replacements)?

The prosthesis Hüftpfanne: There are a variety of models on the market. The Hüftpfanne will rule today in the cement-free implanted. The model will be cemented in our rarely used. It is a one-piece system consists of a plastic (eg polyethylene / polyethylene with or without an applied metal grid structure).

The pan of cementless hip prosthesis has a modular composition. It is always two parts:

  • An outer metal shell
  • An internally anchored deposit (Inlay)

Surgical procedure and post-treatment

Influenced the choice of surgical technique at the hip to heal?

The selection of the appropriate prosthesis and its anchoring is only one part of the decision in the context of a Hüfttotalendoprothese (hip-TEP, HTEP, Totalendoprothese the hip, an artificial hip joint replacement) must be made.

Equally important for a good outcome of the prosthetic hip joint surgery with a speedy and complication-free cure is also the choice of access. Minimally invasive approaches have been enforced for hip replacement because they are particularly gewebeschonend. The soft tissue damage caused by removal of the muscles or damage to the surrounding soft tissues, as well as long incisions avoided. Especially for the walking with the hip major muscle groups at the side hip to be spared the rear access, leading to faster standing and ambulation after the surgical results. Long-lasting irritation of the surrounding bursa, as well as soft-tissue calcifications occur less frequently hereafter.

Hip Arthroscopy

hueftarthroskopie-kleinArthroscopy is an operative intervention, also called keyhole surgery. The arthroscope is a fibre-optic viewing instrument, i.e. a camera, which allows the surgeon to examine, diagnose and treat joint disorders. In recent years, arthroscopic procedures have replaced other forms of intervention, in particular with lower joints, such as the hip, ankle and shoulder. The advantage of the non-strenuous treatment: it involves small incisions and therefore minimal soft tissue damage in the joint. Patients experience far less hip and groin pain after the intervention.

The procedure is similar to the crowns on a tooth and bone thus significantly saving than the standard prosthesis. This aspect is especially for young patients, which in later years with a re-intervention and a change of prosthesis must reckon, is important.
